Have you tried to buy a house in the past few years?  You may have noticed that it’s a sellers market.  By the time we went to an open house, if the place was is in decent shape and priced correctly, we would be told that the house already has 3-4 offers on it.  It was a very frustrating experience.  I took away three lessons and thinking about it now, they all apply to hiring in this crazy market.

  1. Know what you are looking for – is 4 bedrooms a must? 3 bathrooms just a plus?
  2. Getting in before the open house was essential
  3. It was key to have an amazing real estate agent, lawyer, bank, etc that was on point, responsive and ready to move fast.

Have you tried hiring in the I.T. space lately?  You may have noticed that it’s a candidates market.  By the time you reach a candidate, if they have been on the market and priced correct, they will most certainly have 3-4 offers.  Hiring in this market can be a very frustrating experience!

To land your ideal candidate in this market you should.

  1. Know what you are looking for in an ideal candidate (and where you can compromise) before you start
  2. Find passive candidates before they put themselves ‘out there’ on the market.
  3. Make sure all of the stakeholders and internal teams are ready to move quickly including HR, Finance, IT, etc.

These are just some tips to help.  I’d love to hear how you have success hiring in this market.  Leave a comment or send me a note!
